What is Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day( Saint Valentine’s Day) is observed every year on 14 February. Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, mainly in the West, although in all of them it is still a working day. The ” St” original Valentine was only a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints called Valentine. A few centuries later, poets added all the modern romantic connotations.
The first day was associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages circle of Geoffrey Chaucer when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had developed into an occasion in which lovers expressed love for one another by presenting flowers, offering cakes and sending greeting cards (called ” valentines “).
The symbols of the Modern Valentine’s Day include the heart-shaped outline, doves and the winged Cupid figure. Hand-written valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards since the 19th century.
